Argentine Official Responds to Critics of Military Appointment as Defense Minister

Buenos Aires, Nov 23 (NA) – The Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, today came out against opposition leaders who rejected the appointment of Carlos Presticomo as the next Minister of Defense. "They keep going with the 'consensus'... it's about time they realize we are not part of the 'consensus' of the caste," the libertarian official posted on social media, as reported by the Argentine News Agency. He added: "We were too accustomed to all parties being minimal variations of the same thing." In this way, Álvarez responded on Twitter to the president of the UCR of La Plata, Pablo Nicoletti, who had criticized the appointment of the head of the Army at the head of the Armed Forces Ministry. "Nothing justifies breaking the democratic consensus that has been in place since 1983: the political direction of Defense must be civilian, without exception," the radical leader had stated. Other opposition representatives had also expressed their rejection of a military man, for the first time since the return of democracy, taking over the Ministry of Defense. "That's what elections and different parties are for," the libertarian official stated on his social networks, according to the Argentine News Agency. "Excellent appointment of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Javier Milei," he responded.
